Czech visual art between 1947 and 1960 has never before been considered in a broader European context that avoids the stereotype of the “Iron Curtain.” At the same time, when looking at this period, certain clichés and stereotypes are repeatedly perpetuated, hindering the understanding of the true nature and position of Czech art during this period within the post-war world. The goal of the book is to provide a fresh evaluation of Czech art during this period, steering clear of the stereotypes associated with Central and Eastern Europe, and instead, viewing this art as integral to the multifaceted post-war evolution of Europe. This marks the first occasion in the nation’s history where it comprehensively examines Czech culture during the height of dogmatism, encompassing both its official and unofficial aspects, as well as the initial years of moderate political easing. Art historians Marie Klimešová and Hana Rousová have devoted most of their professional lives to this period. To put it plainly, nobody else has delved into this complex period with such thoroughness and essential context. The text, accompanied by four hundred and fifty reproductions, undoubtedly leads to an awareness of the cohesive power of the fundamental values of European culture. These factors elevate the book to one of the most important and necessary books published in the Czech Republic in recent decades.

doc. Daniel de Santis – Transcendental Idealism and Metaphysics: Husserl’s Critique of Heidegger. Volume 1 (Springer Cham 2023)

The book offers a systematic reconstruction of the disagreement between Husserl and Heidegger from the former’s perspective, but without falling into any form of Husserlian apologetics. The main thesis is that Husserl’s critique of Heidegger’s existential analytics as a form of philosophical anthropology entails a deeper fundamental thesis, namely that Heidegger confuses the object of first philosophy (the transcendental determination of the subject) with metaphysics (in the Husserlian sense of the expression). Addressing the Husserl-Heidegger confrontation, this text provides the first systematic reconstruction of Husserl’s conception of the system of philosophy from the perspective of his later works, with a special focus on the Cartesian Meditations. At stake in Husserl’s critique of Heidegger’s philosophy in Being and Time is the refusal to transcendentalize the irrational aspects and nature of our human existence. This first volume addresses Husserl’s doctrine of transcendental idealism with the aim of elucidating the distinction between first philosophy, second philosophies and what Husserl calls last philosophy. This volume appeals to students and researchers.

doc. Tomáš Klír – Zánik a pustnutí venkovských sídlišť v pozdním středověku: Chebsko a Slavkovský les (Karolinum 2023)

Zaniklé středověké vsi jsou fascinujícím historickým pramenem, někdy považovaným za klíčový doklad krize tehdejší evropské společnosti. Předkládaná monografie shrnuje hlavní poznávací přístupy zainteresovaných oborů, relevantní ekonomické teorie a také dosavadní interpretace pustnutí a zániku. Navrhuje zaniklé vsi vnímat jako indikátor adaptability a odolnosti předindustriálních rolnických komunit a s tímto prizmatem přistupuje k analýze vybraných regionů a lokalit na pomezí Čech a Německa. Studie má jedinečný a experimentální charakter, neboť kombinuje hlubokou analýzu písemných, kartografických i onomastických pramenů, výsledky tradičního povrchového průzkumu a analýzu reliktů identifikovaných na základě moderních metod dálkového průzkumu země.

Tato publikace chce postihnout stěžejní momenty a směry hispanoamerických literatur od konce 19. století do počátku 21. století. Každou epochu zastupují klíčoví autoři a jejich zásadní díla. Text chce vyzdvihnout různorodost a modernost hispanoamerické literatury, sílu, již má v nejrůznějších žánrech a kterou vyzařují nejen velké země a metropole, ale jež v některých dějinných okamžicích přicházela i ze zemí menších, opomíjených. Jedná se o přehledovou knihu, která by měla sloužit nejen studentům programů zaměřených na hispanoamerický a iberoamerický region, ale rovněž všem těm, kteří se o tuto kulturní oblast zajímají jako čtenáři, cestovatelé a další.
