First pillar ceremony for a new logistics facility in Brussels Airport’s cargo zone
Scheduled for completion in 2027, this new logistics building forms part of the broader modernisation of Brussels Airport’s cargo zone. It will enable more efficient use of available space while supporting the growth of companies operating on the site. The building will be certified BREEAM Excellent, an international label recognising buildings designed according to high sustainability and energy-efficiency standards. Two long-established partners on the site, Yusen Logistics and Air Promotions Agencies (APA), will further develop their activities there, particularly in the pharmaceutical and general cargo sectors.
Brussels Airport is officially launching the construction of a new second-line logistics facility on a 14,000 m² site, equivalent to approximately two football fields, in the eastern part of the cargo zone. The building will be divided into two units, combining warehousing and office space to meet the operational needs of its partners.
Supporting the growth of existing partners
Upon completion in the course of 2027, the site will welcome two long-standing Brussels Airport partners: Yusen Logistics and Air Promotions Agencies (APA). Both companies have been active in the cargo zone for many years and operate respectively in the pharmaceutical and general cargo sectors. As they seek additional capacity to grow their activities, Brussels Airport is supporting them in this new phase of development by providing them with facilities that are better aligned with current industry requirements, particularly in terms of operational efficiency and sustainability.
A new step in the development of the cargo zone
Beyond this project, Brussels Airport continues to pursue a clear ambition: strengthening its cargo ecosystem and reinforcing its role as a European logistics hub. For several years, this ambition has been reflected in continuous investments in modern, flexible, and sustainable infrastructure.
This new project is a concrete example of that approach. It will enable companies already operating on the site to benefit from spaces that are better suited to their operational needs and growth ambitions.
By redeveloping an existing site, Brussels Airport is also improving the use of available space while creating a more efficient and sustainable environment for its partners.
A building designed for performance and sustainability
The project aims to achieve BREEAM Excellent certification, an internationally recognised standard for buildings designed according to high sustainability and energy efficiency criteria. The new facility will integrate several sustainable features, including a wood beam construction, solar panels, heat pumps, rain gardens, a rainwater storage tank, charging stations, and bicycle parking facilities.
In terms of accessibility, the site will offer approximately 40 car parking spaces (20 per unit), as well as loading bays.
The site became available following the demolition of an obsolete building, as part of an approach focused on optimising land use. The modernisation of this area aims to ensure more efficient use of an already intensively used space while responding to the evolving needs of the logistics sector.
