On Remembrance Day we remember the millions of people who have lost their lives in the line of duty. It is now 108 years since the Armistice was signed on 11 November 1918. We continue to mark the occasion with acts of reflection and remembrance to honour those who have died in conflict past and present.

Acts of remembrance

The Cathedral Remembrance Sunday Service will begin at 10.15am and include two minutes silence at 11am.

Students from Durham University Brass Band are taking part in the Remembrance Day Parade from the Cathedral through Durham City, with members of the armed forces and community groups.

Members of the Staff Chamber Choir will perform a lunchtime concert based on the themes of ‘Remembrance and Reflection’ on Tuesday 10 November at 1pm in the Palatine Centre (reception area).

Supporting services colleagues

We support members of staff who are Veterans, Reservists, Officer Cadets, members of the Universities Military Education Committee or volunteer for a Service charity.

We are a recipient of the Ministry of Defence’s Employer Recognition Scheme Silver Award for our support of the Armed Forces. The Award scheme acknowledges employers who have provided exceptional support to the Armed Forces community.

As part of the pledge, we ensure those who serve or who have served in the Armed Forces, and their families, are treated with fairness and respect in the communities, economy and society they serve.
