How Arm is redefining the PC ecosystem
From new Arm-based silicon and PCs to thousands of applications, Arm is reshaping the next era of personal computing.
The PC is undergoing one of its most significant transformations in decades, and Arm is at the center of it.
Across the industry, Arm’s partners are introducing new devices, silicon platforms, and applications that are expanding what’s possible in personal computing.
From ultra-portable laptops offering all-day battery life to powerful AI workstations, Arm-based PC devices now support an increasingly diverse range of performance requirements, form factors and experiences.
This reflects a fundamental shift. Not long ago, the conversation around Arm-based PCs focused on whether familiar applications would work. Today, it’s about which Arm-powered PC people want to buy.
And as agentic AI transforms how we interact with computers, the next chapter of PC innovation is already taking shape.
A growing ecosystem of Arm-powered PCs
The arrival of NVIDIA’s Arm-based RTX Spark represents an important milestone in the evolution of the Arm PC ecosystem. The platform brings powerful local AI capabilities to new Windows PCs from ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Microsoft Surface and MSI, with many more to follow.
Alongside other Arm-based platforms, this gives device manufacturers and users expanded choice across different performance, efficiency, and workload requirements.
From creative workflows and everyday productivity to education, Arm-powered PCs support a growing range of applications and computing experiences.Arm’s growing role also extends beyond Windows, with Arm and Google collaborating on the next generation of AI-native Googlebooks. Arm-based systems-on-chip (SoCs) for Googlebooks enable industry-leading performance per watt, making it possible to run advanced, on-device AI workloads locally, while maintaining ultra-portable designs that are thin, light, and thermally efficient.
All these developments demonstrate how Arm’s common architecture supports a growing PC ecosystem, spanning different operating systems, silicon platforms, and device categories.
Agentic AI is changing what PCs can do
The next wave of PC innovation brings agentic code generation, multi-stage reasoning, planning, dynamic workflows, agentic RAG, and personal AI assistants with continual task execution.
The opportunity is not just running larger AI models locally, but building complete systems that can execute multi-step agentic workflows concurrently and efficiently. This requires a platform that provides the acceleration for ultra-low latency inference, which is exactly what Arm has partnered with NVIDIA on for RTX Spark.
Agentic AI is transforming the PC experience, enabling personal assistants to manage tasks and coordinate workflows across devices and the cloud. For developers, this opens opportunities to build agentic applications that combine traditional software with AI capabilities, while taking advantage of Arm’s expanding hardware and software ecosystem.
As these applications become more sophisticated, intelligence will increasingly need to move seamlessly between personal devices and the cloud, drawing on the right compute resources for each task.
This is the promise of hybrid intelligence: workloads running wherever they make the most sense for performance, responsiveness, privacy, and efficiency. Arm provides a common compute foundation across these environments, spanning billions of smartphones and connected devices, an expanding PC ecosystem, and cloud infrastructure powering AI at scale.
From compatibility to a mature software ecosystem
However, hardware innovation is only part of the story. A successful PC platform also depends on the applications people use every day.
The Windows on Arm ecosystem now includes thousands of verified applications and games, spanning productivity, creativity, security, education, communications and entertainment. Applications from Adobe, Blender, Dropbox, Figma, Google, Slack, Spotify, WhatsApp, and Zoom demonstrate the breadth of software support available to Arm-based PC users.
Meanwhile for developers, the path to going Arm-native is now significantly easier. This is exemplified by Arm AppReady for Windows, which brings together resources, tooling guidance, and Arm engineering expertise to help development teams build, port and optimize native Arm applications. And now with Python 3.15, developers can run Python natively on Windows on Arm and use a growing ecosystem of native packages, development tools, and infrastructure.
The program – which features applications like Anthropic’s Claude – helps developers assess dependencies, review build systems and compiler settings, identify architecture-specific code and performance-critical paths, and find relevant Arm and Microsoft guidance. It also provides access to Arm application experts when teams encounter more complex migration or optimization issues.
As hardware choice expands and native development becomes more accessible, developers have a growing opportunity to build applications optimized for Arm from the outset.
The next era of personal computing is built on Arm
The growth of Arm-based PCs reflects years of investment in silicon innovation, software compatibility, native applications and ecosystem collaboration. From ultra-portable laptops to new AI workstations, the full spectrum of PC computing is being built on Arm. The question is no longer simply whether Arm can power the PC. It’s what the next generation of PCs will make possible on Arm.
