Key focus areas for 2026 reporting
AFM bude i nadále sledovat shodu s požadavky ESMA, včetně ESEF chyb u změn v kapitole equity, a sdílené rámce pro orientaci auditních komisí a auditních firem.
The Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM) asks listed companies, when preparing their 2026 reporting, to pay particular attention to the supervisory priorities of the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA). Establishing supervisory priorities at the European level promotes greater consistency and enhances the comparability of corporate reporting for investors. In addition, we encourage issuers to remain attentive to the areas of focus we have previously highlighted regarding the cash flow statement and the requirement to disclose material information at segment level. These supervisory priorities and areas of attention are also relevant for audit committees overseeing the financial reporting process and for audit firms responsible for auditing corporate reporting.
Address the ESMA supervisory priorities in 2026 reporting
On October 13, ESMA published its supervisory priorities for 2026 corporate reporting. The AFM will pay particular attention to these matters in the coming year. In summary, these priorities relate to:1. Financial reporting: geopolitical risks and uncertainties; and restructuring provisions and debt restructuring.
2. Sustainability reporting: progress in the application of the double materiality assessment; and connected disclosures regarding impacts, risks and opportunities, the related policies, and the associated actions, targets and metrics.
3. European Single Electronic Format (ESEF): ESMA has identified common ESEF reporting errors relating to the statement of changes in equity.
ESMA has also published the 31st extract from the FRWG (EECS) database of enforcement decisions relating to the application of IFRS Accounting Standards and the ESMA Guidelines on Alternative Performance Measures (APM Guidelines). The report contains a selection of enforcement decisions taken by European securities regulators, including the rationale underpinning those decisions, with the aim of promoting consistent application of reporting requirements.
Pay attention to the quality of the cash flow statement and the related disclosures
A reliable cash flow statement is an essential component of the financial statements and is highly relevant for investors' decision-making. Our previous review of cash flow statements and related disclosures indicates that, while these generally comply with IAS 7 Statement of Cash Flows, there remain areas requiring improvement. We encourage companies to critically assess whether their cash flow statements and related disclosures are complete, consistent and understandable, making use of both the points of attention and the self-assessment published by the AFM.Disclose the items required by IFRS 8 for each reportable segment
IFRS 8 requires entities to disclose specified amounts for each reportable segment, including material items of income and expense. Given the importance of this information to investors, the AFM will continue to focus on compliance with these requirements.
