Nine Polish Salesian martyrs who died in Nazi concentration camps will be beatified on 6 June at the Sanctuary of St. John Paul II in Krakow, with the main Beatification Mass at 10:00 a.m. presided by Cardinal Marcello Semeraro; a second Eucharistic celebration will follow on 7 June in Oświęcim, led by Bishop Roman Pindel and with Fr. Nine Polish Salesian martyrs who perished in Nazi German concentration camps during the Second World War will be beatified on 6 June at the Sanctuary of St. John Paul II in Krakow.
The main Beatification Mass will take place on 6 June at 10:00 a.m. in Krakow and will be presided over by Cardinal Marcello Semeraro, Prefect of the Commission for New Martyrs – Witnesses of the Faith.
A second Eucharistic celebration will take place on 7 June at 11:30 a.m. in Oświęcim. The Mass will be presided over by Bishop Roman Pindel, Bishop of the Diocese of Bielsko-Żywiec, while the homily will be delivered by Fr. Fabio Attard, Rector Major of the Salesians.
The Beatification of the Salesian priests and brothers is a public recognition of their witness to the faith, which proved stronger than violence, fear and death. Remaining faithful to Christ, the Church and their Salesian vocation until the very end, the martyrs gave testimony that faith is not merely an idea, but a choice requiring courage and fidelity, especially in times of trial.
Organisers of the celebrations underline that the Beatification is not only a remembrance of the tragic events of the Second World War, but also a proclamation of the victory of love over evil. In the concentration camps of Auschwitz and Dachau — places created to destroy human dignity — the Salesians’ witness became a sign of hope and inner freedom.
The Beatification is also intended as a message for the modern world, recalling that faith comes at a cost and that responsibility for the education of young people demands consistency and courage. The new Blesseds show that true victory is born of fidelity and self-giving.
