One IPO Patents Service: what to expect ahead of public launch
We are approaching the public launch of the One IPO Patents Service. Here are the updates you need to know.
Launch of the service
We are currently working towards launching the One IPO Service on 31 March, following an external assessment.
The upcoming launch is opening the service to the public, before this launch the service has only been available to a limited group of customers. When we launch the One IPO Service, most users will not notice many changes to how they use it.
If you’re currently on the private beta, you can continue to use the One IPO Service as normal. We will be introducing some updates and improvements before launch. These are detailed in the recently published One IPO Service Roadmap.
The main difference from the launch date is that we will be offering more users access to the One IPO Service. We will shortly start inviting more firms to create their One IPO accounts in preparation of the launch.
The public will be able to sign up for a One IPO account from the apply for a patent page.
Additional support
To help you make the move from Web Filing to One IPO, we have started publishing demonstration videos onto Youtube that cover most aspects of the service. We will also be hosting a One IPO webinar with CIPA before on 26 March, and a series of weekly virtual training sessions after Easter.
European Patent Office’s Online Filing (eOLF)
You will no longer be able to file UK patents via eOLF from 1 April 2026. For that reason, we strongly encourage you to start using the One IPO Service now to familiarise yourself with it before eOLF is decommissioned.
For now, you can still file patent applications through the Web Filing Service or by emailing [email protected], but the One IPO Service will offer a better experience. Applications and requests received through One IPO will also be processed quicker than those received through legacy services.
Patent publication
We have been experiencing delays to publishing patents as we roll out the new service. We are on track to return to our full publishing capacity by the end of March. Thank you for your patience as we continue to work hard to resolve this issue.
Looking ahead
The One IPO Service will offer immediate benefits from launch, including the ability to view and update your UK patents in real-time. However, we recognise that we have work to do to continue improving and enhancing the service in the coming weeks, months and years.
Our roadmap of ongoing improvements to the service will make our priorities for the service clear before and after it launches for all patents customers.
