Developing faster indicators of transport activity
Due to Easter and the early April bank holidays, there is a shortened data window for the faster indicators on new vehicle registrations and electric vehicle chargers, so these statistics will be published on Wednesday 15 April instead of the planned date. The Department for Transport has published updates on several indicators to monitor transport activity more timelier, including monthly public EV chargers by country and region (UK) and monthly cars and light goods vehicles registered for the first time by body type and fuel type, with the next publication on 15 April, and daily local bus statistics (year ending March 2025) with timing to be confirmed and a next update date of 19 June 2025. Some series have been discontinued (practical car driving tests, large goods vehicle vocational testing, and road haulier coronavirus testing), and timing may change in special circumstances; methodology notes remain available for further information.

Delay to publication of faster indicators on new vehicle registrations and electric vehicle chargers
Due to Easter and the early April bank holidays, there is a shorter timeframe to receive and process the data needed to produce the faster indicators on new vehicle registrations and electric vehicle chargers. As a result, these statistics will not be published on the second Wednesday of April as planned. Publication will instead take place one week later, on Wednesday 15 April.

In special circumstances, the timing of updates might change for some indicators. Where applicable, the date of the next update will be added to the “Timing of update” field.
Some of the issues will be short term in nature, and the relevant updates will cease once the issue is no longer either in operation or of relevance.

Monthly public EV chargers by country and region: United Kingdom - monthly statistics on the total number of public electric vehicle chargers and charging devices in the UK are published since December 2021. Quarterly electric vehicle charging infrastructure statistics are also published by DfT.
Cars and light goods vehicles registered for the first time by body type and fuel type – monthly provisional estimates of the number of newly registered cars and light goods vehicles in the UK are published since October 2025. Quarterly vehicle licensing statistics are also published by DfT.
Daily local bus passenger and trip statistics - local bus passenger and trip statistics in England outside London, year ending March 2025. Annual and Quarterly bus statistics are also published by DfT.
Practical car driving tests - this series was discontinued in November 2024 with the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency assuming responsibility for producing this data in an alternative format on their collection pages.
Large goods vehicles vocational driving tests - this series was discontinued in November 2024 with the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency assuming responsibility for producing this data in an alternative format on their collection pages.
Road hauliers testing - this series was discontinued in March 2022. This series presented weekly statistics on the number of lateral flow tests conducted on hauliers, and the positivity rate of those tests, since early March 2021.
