The Prime Minister has reappointed Professor Stephen Belcher CBE and Tim Dugher as Trustees to the Science Museum Group for a term of four years.
Reappointed from 1 June 2026 until 31 May 2030.
Stephen Belcher is Chief Scientist at the UK Met Office with responsibility for leading the research, development and operations of the Met Office’s work on weather and climate. Stephen represents the Met Office on science and technology as a member of the UK Government Chief Scientific Advisor network, ensuring that the Met Office programme fits properly into the wider UK and international environmental science landscape.
Stephen is Chair of the World Meteorological Organisation’s Science Advisory Panel and a visiting Professor at the Universities of Reading and Exeter.
He was awarded a CBE in the 2026 New Years Honours List for contributions to climate science.

Tim is a professional engineer and career railwayman who has spent 48 years in the rail industry, progressing from Engineering Apprentice to Chief Operating Officer of Angel Trains Limited via a whole range of technical and leadership positions throughout the UK.
In 2011, after 34 years in full time roles, he made the transition to non-executive status to serve on other Boards including the Rail Safety and Standards Board, Vossloh Kiepe UK, Network Certification Body where he was Chairman, and Porterbrook Leasing where he was a shareholder representative Director for eleven years up to the end of 2025. He also manages his own management consultancy company, and has served in an Advisory capacity to a number of other companies and projects.
Tim is a Chartered Engineer, having graduated from Aston University, and is a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and former Chairman of its Railway Division Board. His other voluntary activities include being an active committee member of the local Institution of Mechanical Engineers Railway Division branch committee which exists to promote knowledge of engineering developments, and he has also served as a school governor and local Parish Councillor.
Trustees of the Science Museum Group are not remunerated. This appointment has been made in accordance with the Cabinet Office’s Governance Code on Public Appointments. The appointments process is regulated by the Commissioner for Public Appointments. Under the Code, any significant political activity undertaken by an appointee in the last five years must be declared. This is defined as including holding office, public speaking, making a recordable donation, or candidature for election.
Professor Stephen Belcher CBE and Tim Dugher have not declared any significant political activity.
