Yesterday, within the European Union, new rules promoting scientific research on very large online platforms came into force. Based on the delegated act on data access, and in line with the provisions of the DSA, qualified researchers will now be able to request access to non-publicly available platform data.
This can help answer research questions about systemic risks, such as what content is recommended to children and adolescents on their social media profiles and how they are exposed to harmful content, how platforms protect consumers from online financial fraud and how effective the measures in place are. Obtaining the data will be subject to a comprehensive request. Very large platforms based in the Czech Republic are platforms with adult content, Xvideos and XNXX. Since the adaptation of the DSA Regulation (the upcoming Act on the Digital Economy) has not yet been completed in the Czech Republic, CTU can offer a consultation for researchers who would be interested in certification and would like to be certified directly by the national coordinators of these platforms.
