15 organizations transforming public service with AI

We’re announcing the organizations selected for the $30 million Google.org Impact Challenge: AI for Government Innovation.

Today, we are announcing the 15 recipients of the $30 million Google.org Impact Challenge: AI for Government Innovation. Selected from a global pool of more than 2,600 proposals, these academic institutions, social enterprises, and nonprofits are supporting governments like state and national health ministries and municipal transit agencies to address complex challenges using AI.

Through a dedicated Google.org Accelerator, they will receive pro bono support and hands-on guidance from Google engineers and product experts to build human-centered AI tools. Designed as open-source blueprints, these projects can be adapted, improved, and shared to transform public services in communities from Illinois to Lagos to Nagoya.

Here are the 15 teams helping to build more accessible and supportive public services globally:

• CIV:LAB is reducing local government emergency response coordination times across heat, flood, and infrastructure crises.
• Clear Letter is turning confusing government letters into plain language explanations and actionable next steps.
• Code for America is speeding up free tax filing for low-income households to get more dollars back into their pockets.
• Disaster Mitigation Research Center, Nagoya University is mapping emergency medical supply and demand in real time to coordinate patient care during disasters.
• Flexbone is helping caregivers and patients find affordable outpatient care regardless of insurance status.
• Froncort.AI is guiding frontline health workers to infectious disease clusters — like TB, malaria and dengue — that blanket campaigns miss.
• Helium Health Foundation is helping women identify early risks and access timely, specialized maternal healthcare.
• ICLEI Europe is equipping municipal staff to serve as proactive community energy help desks.
• Illinois Association of County Engineers is helping rural counties optimize infrastructure resource management and improve road safety.
• Johns Hopkins University is helping municipal transportation departments make better road safety decisions and save lives.
• Khoch3 KlimaKarten is helping municipalities to more rapidly assess and implement climate resilience projects.
• Massachusetts Institute of Technology is unifying real-time public transit feeds and operational data to improve service delivery and rider communications.
• TOJIL is clearing backlogs through streamlined, prosecutor-supervised case drafting and transparent case tracking for victims.
• University of Cincinnati Research Institute is predicting infrastructure failures to help emergency teams protect critical services like power grids and roads, and accelerate community recovery.
• University of Warwick is mapping disease risks and deploying mobile clinics to vulnerable areas for preventive screening interventions.
