Eagerly awaited by many aviation enthusiasts, the ninth edition of Spotters' Day took place this Tuesday, August 4 at Brussels Airport. Twenty plane spotters enjoyed an unforgettable day featuring unique photo opportunities on the tarmac, a visit to the AHLEX training centre and a chance to discover the airport firefighters’ brand-new crash tenders.

Following a contest that attracted more than 220 participants, compared to 165 last year, twenty spotters were selected and invited to dive into the heart of Brussels Airport’s activities. Safely escorted to a reserved area near the runways, they were able to photograph their favourite aircraft taking off and landing, including several planes featuring special liveries.

The day also included a visit to the AHLEX training centre, giving participants a better understanding of the many professions and training programmes linked to the airport environment. The spotters were then introduced to Brussels Airport’s brand-new crash tenders, that are among the most modern fire engines in their category. They also learned more about the essential role played by emergency services in the airport’s day-to-day operations.

For years, Brussels Airport has attracted aviation enthusiasts from Belgium and abroad thanks to the diversity of airlines operating at the airport (more than 70), the wide variety of aircraft types and the many special liveries that can be seen on the apron. To accommodate these enthusiasts, two spotting platforms have been available since 2018, offering magnificent views of the runways and allowing spotters to capture airport activity safely.

With this 9th edition of Spotters’ Day, Brussels Airport wants to thank its spotters community who, through their photographs and passion, help showcase the airport far beyond its terminal.
