With that in mind, today we're introducing a new experience on Android to help you safely and easily move your passwords and passkeys between password managers in just a few clicks — no file downloads required. This gives you more flexibility, all while keeping your information safe.

Transfer passwords and passkeys with ease.

Historically, moving your passwords meant downloading them into an unencrypted text file, which left them unprotected on your device. And passkeys couldn't be transferred at all, so you'd have to recreate them across multiple sites and apps. Now, moving your passwords and passkeys to a new password manager is simpler and safer. Here’s what you can expect when making a switch ¹ .

1. Start the move: Open your new password manager app and choose the option to import or copy your passwords and passkeys from another provider. The password manager will then hand the task over to Android.
2. Let Android securely coordinate the data transfer: Android will automatically detect existing password managers on your device and show you which you can import from.
3. Review and authorize: Once you tap “Continue,” Android will bring you to your existing password manager to select, review, and authorize the transfer. Then your data will be quickly and securely transferred between the apps in just a few seconds.

Import your passwords to Google Password Manager with just a few clicks. Exporting your data is just as easy.

Manage your data, your way.

This new transfer experience is already available on Google Password Manager, 1Password, Bitwarden Password Manager, and Dashlane, with more partners to follow. It is designed to give you always have complete control over your data and the freedom to switch providers whenever you want.
