The Wissenschaftskolleg in Berlin is an institute for interdisciplinary advanced studies, founded in 1981 and modelled on the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton. Each year, around forty researchers are selected: researchers in the natural and social sciences, as well as artists, from all over the world, are welcomed there to pursue their research projects freely.
Its former residents (Fellows) include the historian of political thought Quentin Skinner, the historian Carlo Ginzburg, the legal scholar and political scientist Bruce Ackerman, and the legal scholar Dieter Grimm.
